Fort Claudia (1645) - The strategic importance of the ridge opposite Ehrenberg was known for a long time. He played an important role in the reconquest of Ehrenberg in 1546.

The history
A fortification was omitted due to lack of funds. It was like that in 1632, when the Swedes advanced to Ehrenberg. Only years later, from 1639 to 1645, was the Fort Claudia, which bears the name of this princess, built under the ruler of Tyrol, Archduchess Claudia.

In 1703, Fort Claudia was taken by the Bavarians, who initiated the occupation of Ehrenberg from here. In 1782 the fortress was abandoned. The old fortress was still inhabited in the 19th century and fell into disrepair after it was abandoned.

The little brother (or little sister?) Of Ehrenberg is not quite so sublime, but at least it offers just as beautiful a view. You can also connect the two straightway via the Highline 179.
