Kala Patthar, which literally means 'black stone', is a Nepalese peak located at an altitude of 5,645 metres. Kala Patthar offers one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the entire Everest region. Mount Everest (gray mountain on the left) in all its glory! And still more than 3 km higher than your vantage point ... just the highest peak on earth.
The trip to the Kalar Patar is especially worthwhile because you can not even see the summit of Mount Everest in the base camp. Then you better climb the "balcony of the Himalayas" and enjoy the view in good weather. Many a Kalar Patar climbs only at sunset - but then you have to watch out for the descent in complete darkness!
