The approximately 42-meter-high witch tower, the landmark of the city of Idstein, is the castle of Idstein Castle, which has undergone numerous alterations and was designed as a churn tower. Due to its exposed location and its height, it shapes the Idstein cityscape. He carries the international protection mark for the marking of cultural property after the Hague convention.

The tower is the oldest preserved building in Idstein and the town's landmark. It was built in individual construction phases around 1170, around 1240 and around 1500. After several minor modifications and additions in the 18th century, it was given its current appearance in 1810. The popular name "Hexenturm" follows a general fashion of the 19th century and has nothing to do with the witch hunts that took place in Idstein in the 17th century.
If you want to visit the Witches Tower, you have the opportunity to do so during the opening hours of the tourist information office. The key to the tower can be handed over for a small deposit.
