From time immemorial, perhaps even on the ruins of a Roman altar, there was a small sanctuary here, much frequented by pilgrims from the valley who venerated the Madonna dei Dolori. We also went up to propitiate the crops of the countryside and an abundant harvest. The curious name (Collagù) derives from the pointed shape of the hill adjacent to the sanctuary (colle acu-to). The name is very ancient, and attests settlements since the Bronze Age.

Between the 1700s and 1800s this place was left in abandonment and ruin. In the 1930s, by a vote, the noble Bottari De Castello family had the small church and bell tower built, as we see them now, on tasteful neo-romantic forms, with a splendid fresco on the external portico. In 1932 the relics of Sant'Emilio were placed, the complex was consecrated and dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of Sorrows.
A beautiful place, isolated, solitary, silent, surrounded by a riot of terraces and vineyards.

Gorgeous, there are no other words. The atmosphere suddenly changes, it goes back centuries, the silence becomes special, the colors of the frescoes and the stone make everything an enchantment. We passed it during a long and special loop above Farra di Soligo (here: bagaglioleggero.it/escursione-colline-del-prosecco-farra-di-soligo/). Ah: a few steps down, there is an excellent refreshment point.
