The Neue Flora was built because the originally planned department store in the Schanzenviertel was occupied by militant autonomists (Rote Flora). But there was also resistance at the new location. It was built anyway. The first musical to be performed there was "The Phantom of the Opera". At the premiere there were violent protests despite a large police presence. At the time I attended the dress rehearsal, which was completely peaceful. Peter Hofmann and Anna Maria Kaufmann were great, as was the set and music.

The Neue Flora Stage Theater, built in the style of the 1920s, is located in the immediate vicinity of the Holsten Brewery and has become an important Hamburg landmark.

With "The Phantom of the Opera", one of the most popular musicals in Germany found its first home here from 1990 to 2001 and delighted more than seven million viewers. Other successful musical productions followed, such as "Tanz der Vampire", "Dirty Dancing" and "Tarzan" before the phantom returned to the stage in 2013. Following the magical enchantment of the Arabian Nights in the award-winning Disney production ALADDIN, artistic sensation CIRQUE DU SOLEIL performed Paramour.

Before or after the visit to the musical, guests can enjoy the international delicacies of the adjacent restaurant "Cardoza's" or enjoy ice-cold drinks and cocktails in the Stage Club.

With almost 2,000 seats, the Neue Flora in Hamburg is one of the largest theaters in Germany and was built in 1989/90. The seats are arranged like in a classic amphitheater and offer an unrestricted view of the stage from all seats. This covers an area of 1,500 m², divided into the side, back and main stages. The height from the lower stage to the roof is 33 meters.

We watched the musical Tarzan here in 2012 before moving on to Stuttgart in 2013.
