Hofkirchen boasts some spectacular views of the Danube. High above the Danube, mostly on the edge of steep or straight cliffs of the Donauleiten. The so-called Brenneck in Hundsfulling has been one of them for more than half a century. "Above the almost vertically sloping rocks, a seat invites you to enjoy the magnificent view of the Danube and the town of Wesenufer from around 300 meters down the valley," explains Mayor Martin Raab. After the Second World War, the Hofkirchner Garden Festival was even held there for a few years.
Signal panel has been restored
A signal board about five meters high has been there for over sixty years. This draws the attention of road users on the Nibelungenstraße south of the Danube, from Schlögen upstream along the Danube, as well as ship and boat crews, to the view of the Danube. This plaque was renewed 35 years ago as part of the Hofkirchner year of culture. The ravages of time, wind and weather over the decades have severely damaged the panel again. Karl Hackl, farmer, firefighter and participant in community life, dismantled the plaque with his son Jan and took it to the Hofkirchner painter Franz Kehrer from Marsbach for restoration. This is nothing new for Franz Kehrer: 35 years ago, he was the man who made this historic signal board shine in a completely new light. For him it goes without saying: everything is voluntary. "Franz Kehrer was also an honorary employee at the Hofkirchner Beautification Association for decades, which never splurged, especially when it came to upcoming work. A heartfelt thank you goes to the three attentive and hard-working Hofkirchners for the recent, very successful restoration of the signal board of this wonderful view of the Danube," says Raab.
