The Atomium is a 102 m high building erected in Brussels for the Expo 58. It represents a nine-atom strongly enlarged cubic cell of the crystal model of iron. Three atoms of a space diagonal form as hollow spheres together with the connecting lines (tubes) an observation tower around which the other six atoms and their mutual connections are arranged.

The Atomium was designed by the engineer André Waterkeyn as a symbol of the atomic age and the peaceful use of nuclear energy and designed and built by the architects André and Jean Polak.

The landmark of Brussels was created in 1958 for the World's Fair.
An elementary cell of an iron crystal structure was enlarged 165 billion times.
It was a symbol of the peaceful use of nuclear energy and of the optimistic spirit of a time when faith in scientific and technological progress was great.

Very impressive building, which was built for the Expo in 1958, is over 100 meters high and represents a model of the element of iron consisting of nine atoms. The top sphere has an all-round view and a panoramic restaurant. The others have various exhibitions on the creation of the landmark and historical facts. Partly elevator, partly stairs, partly escalator. I recommend going in the afternoon because you don't have to queue. Admission costs 15 euros or 25% discount for Brussels Card holders, so you only pay 11.25. It is open daily between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
