    It's not far from this Ritterstein to the Palatinate World Axis. There's a parking lot right next door, and then there's a nice big stone that proudly proclaims "Kaiserslautern".

    When the wood was once brought from the Kaiserslautern forest over the pass to the Leinbachtal to the Drift, there was a house up here with a stable for the harness horses, because this is where the animals were changed for protection.

      This is one of over 300 knight's stones of the Palatinate Forest Association. He points out the following:
      A stable belonging to the stud farm, which was founded by the Otterberg Cistercian monastery, probably once stood on this site. After the monastery's economic decline, Elector Ludwig III acquired it. (1378-1436) in 1426 the stud farm and the associated Otterberg forest area with 80 wild horses. These were used by the knighthood and in the army.
      The Elector declared the farm to be the main and state stud farm and later had a small accommodation house with a stable built on this site. At the top of the pass on the old road (Perlenburg-Breitenau-Espensteig-Aspach-Otterberger Sohl-Stall) this served as a stable for the harness horses that were used to transport wood. The wood was cut in the forest east of Kaiserslautern. From there it was transported to the pass along a steep old path. The full wagon could only be transported up to the pass with the help of several harness horses. Once at the pass, we could continue downhill with just two horses towards the east to the Leinbach, over which the wood was later drifted. Only two horses were needed to return the empty wagon.
      After the Holztrift experienced its economic decline, the stable at the top of the pass was demolished. Today only the name “Am Stall” reminds us of these times. Remains can no longer be found.

        The knight's stone 140 indicates that a stable of the Otterberg monastery's stud probably stood here. The stable is also reminiscent of the rafting, the horses were housed here at the pass.
