The memorial here at Tiefwarensee has been standing since 1963 and the weather has visibly damaged the stone over the years. Created by Walter Preik, it was erected in honor of the fallen Soviet soldiers. The incorporated names of the dead soldiers are already partially weathered and the association Landsmannschaft der Deutschen von Russia has been involved in searching for clues and finding further names for many years. Nine more have been added to the original 67 names. So now 76 well-known names of the Soviet army members laid to rest in the area of the “Mourning Mother” are clearly legible on a bronze plaque that is framed on a stele made of Rochlitz porphyry. This stone is the same as in the memorial of the "Mourning Mother" and it seems as if this memorial stone has been here forever. The new monument was made by the Preik sons, who continue the work of Walter Preik. https: //www.mueritzportal
