The carillon and the fountain with the eagle on the market square are certainly one of the most photographed sights in Goslar. When the figures circulate (playing times daily 9 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.), the square is well attended.

Four times a day, all eyes and cameras are focused on the gable of the "Kämmereigebäude" on the east side of the market square. Three little doors open and a circus of figures tells the story of mining in Rammelsberg, from the legendary discovery by the knight Ramm to modern times, accompanied by the carillon intoning mining melodies. The carillon and figure circulation were donated by Preussag in 1968 on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of Rammelsberg mining. In addition, the morning song will sound at 8:30 a.m. and the evening song at 6:30 p.m. (without figure rotation).

For the millennium of the Rammelsbergwerk ore mine, the operating company Preussag donated the glockenspiel to the city in 1968 and attached it to the city treasurer's house on the market. Today Preussag is gone, the mine is a museum and the city is bankrupt (the treasurer is no longer there). But the carillon draws thousands of tourists. The story of mining in Goslar is told. At the beginning, the knight Ramm, who gave the mountain its name, and his horse found the first lump of ore. At 9 a.m., 12 a.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. there is another morning and evening song without figures and Christmas carols can be played at Christmas time.
