    An excerpt from our walking experience to Laptrop along the historical, tasty, inspired, playful story of the 'Pissebaum'. We followed the trail of believers from Laptrop, more than 100 years ago...

    Like laymen on the Alter Kircheweg (the old church path) to Latrop.

    Yet with a little guilt, over the 600 meter summit of the Schmallenberger Hohe, the 'Alter Kircheweg' leads us past stately forests, wide forest paths and a panoramic road to Latrop.
    When we got here we were late again. Latrop, the idyllic village seems deserted.
    Sankt Josef, who has been working on his religious community for a whole week, does not belong in his house of worship and the Holy Spirit is competing together with the other racing pigeons.
    We enjoy our knapsack and a foot washing, offered by the village community of Latrop.
    Tretbecken gives us a fresh feeling to start the return journey along the Mühlenteich - Weg.
    It is a pity that we have to conclude here that the Lettersetter (= beetle) does not take a day of rest on Sunday. They keep gnawing away. Walls of felled trees protect us from the wind at the top of the Schmallenberger Hohe. The descent goes to the historic Mühlengraben water reservoir of the Kloster - Grafschaft.

                                  The origin of Latrop can only be guessed at. However, the places of worship in the area suggest that Latrop served as a hidden and secluded dwelling place for pagan peoples. The first official mention dates back to 1257 with some farmsteads. Due to the Soest feud in 1444 and the following epidemics, Latrop was completely deserted by the end of the century and the survivors withdrew to Schmallenberg. An abbot of the Grafschaft Abbey took care of the reconstruction 200 years later, citing a deed of donation according to which the Latrop area had belonged to the Grafschaft Abbey for centuries. The Schmallenbergers saw themselves robbed of their pastures in the Latroptal and resisted the construction work with force of arms. However, the Grafschaft monastery won a 12-year legal battle and finally began to resettle the place with families from the Ore Mountains.
