The Old Church has been the center of Langenberg for centuries. The previous chapel probably dates from the 10th century.

The Old Church is the main church of the Protestant parish of Langenberg. It is located in the center of the old town center and stands approximately at the point where the first Romanesque church with a Gothic choir had been located since the end of the 13th century. It was founded by the Rellinghauser women's monastery, which owned a number of farms in the area around Langenberg. The chapel was dedicated to St. Lambertus.

In 1593 the parish joined the reformed Bergische Synod.

The last extensive work took place in 1999. The slate roof covering, the bell suspension and the ball, cross and weathercock on the top of the tower were renewed. The church also got new lamps.

At night the place is absolutely beautifully lit - a feast for the camera. All around there are lots of goodies without lockdown - I just say "ice cream parlor"
