The heptagonal chapel was designed by the Amsterdam architect Alexander Kropholler. The neo-Romanesque dome is made of brick and reinforced with buttresses at the corners. The phrase Sursum corda on the chapel means 'Lift up your heart'.

The statues in the chapel are by Mari Andriessen, best known for the statue De Dokwerker following the February strike of 1941. Central is the life-size statue of Jesus Christ with outstretched arms. The words 'Le Christ avant tout' are chiselled on the plinth, French for 'Christ for all'. Surrounding the statue of Christ in the corners of the chapel are seven cement statues that symbolize the seven virtues: faith, hope, love, justice, strength, moderation and prudence.

The motto goal of the hike is reached when we reach the chapel “Sursum Corda”, “Lift up the hearts!”.

“The “Christuskoepel” is located on the Arnhem part of the property (Mariendaal). […] The hexagonal chapel was designed by the Amsterdam architect Alexander J. Kropholler. The neo-Romanesque dome is built of brick and has buttresses at the corners. The motto "Sursum Corda", "the hearts upwards", is displayed in an arch above one of the entrances.
The chapel contains sculptures by Mari Andriessen. In the middle stands the large statue of Christ with (broken) outstretched arms. On the base of the statue is written "Le Christ avant tout", "Christ for all". In a circle around the statue of Christ, in the corner niches, there are seven (cement) statues that symbolize the seven virtues: faith, hope, love, moderation, justice, strength and prudence. […]
The chapel was completed on May 8, 1940. After the war it regularly fell victim to vandalism, which is why the three entrances to the chapel were blocked.”
