Johanniterkirche, Feldkirch
The original building was built in 1218 by Count Hugo von Montfort for the commander of the Order of St. John, which existed until 1610. After the sale to Weingarten Monastery, renovations were carried out in 1660 under the prior and well-known historian Father Gabriel Bucelin. In 1895 the church was handed over to the Ottobeuren monastery. After secularization in 1802/03, it was demoted to a salt store from 1806 to 1809 and served as a grammar school church from 1809 to 1969. The tower was given its current shape during renovations from 1879 to 1884. On the roof gable there is a figure of a knight, called "Bläsi", who has been telling the time since 1510 by hitting a bell with a hammer. A fresco by Florus Scheel on the gable facade from 1927 depicts the sermon of St. John the Baptist.
From 1982 to 1989, archaeological excavations and building studies were carried out by the Federal Monuments Office inside the church.
Since 1995 the church has served as an exhibition space for installations of contemporary art.
