The Raspaillebos is a place with many stories and legends and 't Iffraken is part of that. During the Middle Ages, the forest provided shelter to the Pigs of the Raspaille Forest, a group of irregulars who took shelter there after plundering raids. Robber chief Jan De Lichte also sought shelter in this dense forest.
In the second half of the 19th century, a small chapel dedicated to Saint Apollonia was built in the forest near a source. Anyone who wanted to be freed from stabbing toothache went there for a quick prayer. That location is said to have once served as a Celtic cult site.
You can relax there for a while.

The Miss Chapel, locally known as 't ifraken, dates from before 1865.
A drink from the well and a prayer for Apollonia was once good for toothache. This site used to be a Celtic place of worship.
The dilapidated chapel collapsed in early 2012. On September 15, 2013, the restoration - with historical materials and according to old methods - was a fact. 40 volunteers performed 1000 man hours in 50 work sessions.

Natuurpunt Boven-Dender believes that this enchanting site and this small monument deserve a place in the Raspaillebos.
A place to reflect on what was, or to muse about what is to come.
