The bakery has been renovated and baking is carried out occasionally in summer, so that hikers can enjoy warm bread if the Corona situation allows it.

Residents used to bake their own bread and cakes, but due to the risk of fire this was done outdoors. Baking houses were built at some distance from the buildings, with the oven at the back and baking tables at the front, to prepare for baking. Racks or shelves were hung on the walls on which the baked goods could be placed. Baking is traditionally done on Fridays. When the kiln was fired with hawthorn or pine wood, it produced a distinct smell due to the combustion of the oils and resins in the wood. The bread absorbed the aroma and thereby acquired a special taste.

The Kloosterhof bakery, now owned by the Dutch Forestry Commission, is open a few days a year. Bread is baked there, which you can then enjoy with homemade jam while listening to stories about the bakery and its history. Additional information is provided on the sign. There are several benches. These days, anyone who wishes to contribute is asked to help preserve this heritage site.
