Even from the outside, the four-masted barque Peking, whose hull is made of steel, looks imposing and impressive. The ship was launched by Blohm and Voss in 1911 for use as a ship transporting saltpeter. The owner, F. Laeisz, not only made good profits with his famous Flying P-Liners in the transport business, but also introduced many innovations on his ships that were unusual for the time. On a tour of the ship (cost €15), you can learn a lot about this and the changing fortunes in the period up to 2017, when the ship was brought back to Hamburg from America for restoration, and get a good impression of how such a ship was used.
