Good Salzau is a very nice property. Before and on the property are Radwanderweg signs attached but also Durchgangsverbot-signs !?

The former Landeskulturzentrum (until 2010, known by the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Jazz Baltica) Schloss Salzau was sold in early 2017. Since then it lies in the slumber.

Salzau is an old knight's seat in Holstein, named after the knight Otto von Salzau, mentioned for the first time in the second half of the 13th century, when Queen Mechthild, the widow of King Abel of Denmark, left him 30 marks. Salzau was owned by the Counts of Blome from the 18th to the 20th century and, after 1945, became the property of the Counts of Thun and Hohenstein. The mansion burned down in the 19th century and was rebuilt in 1881 by Otto von Blome. The architect of the new building was Joseph Eduard Mose.

As of February 26, 2011, the estate was for sale. Events, e.g. the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and the JazzBaltica Festival, have not been held here since.

The fantastic manor house is empty! Signs prohibit entry without authorization: “Private property – entry prohibited”.

Salzau Castle is actually a manor house, a knight's seat.

In more recent times it was a festival venue and refugee hostel. Private investors repeatedly acquired the castle and went bankrupt as a result.

Construction is going on there today and what it will be like in the future cannot currently be researched.

In November 2022 you could read in the newspaper that the manor house would gradually be converted into a hotel by private investors.
