The square in front of Ehrenburg Palace was designed from 1830 to 1837. It is bordered by the Landestheater Coburg opposite, the Hofgarten, which extends up to the fortress, and to the west by the old town.

The courtyard garden is designed in the style of an English landscape park. The lower area is occupied by the court garden terrace with the equestrian monument to Duke Ernst II. Also worth seeing are the mausoleum for Duke Franz Friedrich Anton and his wife from 1816/1817, the memorial of the Coburg Convent from 1926 and the Duke Alfred Fountain from 1904.

The Schlossplatz has also been known for years as a venue for concerts, demonstrations of the Samba Festival and the famous Schlossplatzfest takes place here every year.
