With the "Belle", Eggenstein has a tranquil spot on the Rhine. It has long attracted day-trippers from all over the area. The renaturation of the Alb Canal, completed by the municipality in May 2014, significantly improved the rest of the area. The historic, iron "Belle Bridge" over the Alb Canal was demolished in 2013 and replaced by a new farm road bridge. The Alb Canal begins just before the mouth of the Alb at the oil port and flows three and a half kilometers further north into the Rhine via the Pfin relief canal. Since an intake structure was built in the flood dyke, Rhine water has also flowed through the canal. The renaturation narrowed the canal over a distance of two kilometers. Side channels were dug and dead wood was brought in. This created new, valuable habitats for typical floodplain inhabitants. For decades, the Eggenstein music club "Lyra" has been organizing the "Bellefest" in May to great popularity. Despite various cancellations due to weather, the club has maintained this tradition. As can be read in the club's chronicle, the "Lyra" had already organized events with open-air concerts in 1928 under the motto "Excursion to the Belle".

A really beautiful spot on the Rhine. There used to be a huge poplar tree (=Belle) here at the old mouth of the Alb. Hence the name of the spot here. There are a few benches, a stone with historical water levels, and if the water is not too high, you can see all the way to the Rhine.

Belle (Old Alb estuary): about 450 years ago the Alb flowed 5 km upstream into the Rhine at Knielingen. Over the centuries the Rhine and its tributaries changed their course again and again. The Belle is an attractive destination with the former mouth of the Alb. Incidentally, the name Belle is a dialect name for poplar.
