So the saga of the stone man in Verden reports that a servant of the mother church himself was surprised when he tried to attack the church treasure. When asked about the matter, he most blasphemously denied what he had done and swore: "If I lie, the devil will take me!" And so the incarnate immediately drove through the holy hall and dragged the sinner with him to get hold of his soul. But the strength of the unspeakable was not enough to break through the consecrated place, and so the sinful body got stuck in the walls of the cathedral and petrified. And so he still hangs there over the cloister.
