Located directly on the R13 / 14 cycle path and on the county road to Weisenhasel, the villagers of Hornel have created a great and very beautiful area to linger. It is nurtured and cared for with many voluntary hours and work assignments.
An information board provides information about the village of Hornel.
The new cycle path "Die Hessenhütte" starts from here up to the industrial area Brodberg.
The village fountain was built in April 1993 by the members of the Heimat- und Verkehrsverein. This should remind of the closed copper slate mining in our home.
The diesel locomotive was donated and comes from a brick factory in Gerstungen. The lorry coupled to the locomotive was acquired by the Nentershausen Mining Museum Association. The second cart is a gift from the Sontra miners' association.
This locomotive with the two wagons is intended to be a reminder of the heavy spar field railway that once ran between Nentershausen and Sontra.

A cozy resting place, especially for sunny days, right at the entrance to Hornel.
Directly in front of it is a mine railway and information boards about village life in Hornel and the mining of heavy spar in the region, as well as the associated former 10 km long narrow-gauge railway from the Münden mine in Nentershausen to Sontra.
The village well, as well as the relics of barite mining, are embedded in the new "Glück-Auf-Radweg" cycle path (36km long circular path), which runs directly past the well and is intended to illustrate the history and mining tradition within this region.
