      Originally Havezathe Windesheim was built around 1600. In the years that followed, it was demolished, rebuilt and owners changed. The buildings were destroyed in 1944. Only remnants of the main building exist. What you see on site are the construction houses.

      In 2008, the last private owner left the estate to Stichting Landgoed Windesheim.

      The landscaped park around Windesheim is part of cultural heritage.

      Clay was mined in the brick holes on the other part of the route to make bricks. The brick factory is located in a rest area and is unfortunately not accessible.

      Tip: the brick factory at Fortmond further upstream to Deventer is still accessible.

        It was mosquito season when we were there. I would not recommend an unprotected evening walk here. The environment is beautiful.
