The CAI 167 path largely runs along the ancient competition that leads to the Valle degli Alberghi. Lizzatura is the method used to transport blocks from high ground quarries to the valley since ancient times. The marble blocks were squared and prepared in charges: the charge could be formed by a single very large block or by several blocks tied together. Below the blocks were inserted the lizzas, large wooden poles (generally beech) with the tip raised, and everything was tied. Once the charge was prepared and taken to the start of the route, the descent to the valley began: holding the charge by means of ropes anchored to the piri. The piri are short and very solid poles of wood or marble, planted firmly directly in the ground.
The list of hotels is still well preserved: in several places you can see the pyro holes and the piri where the cables that held the lines during their descent were wound. In some points on the sides of the mountain the grooves left by the rubbing of the cables in the areas where the competition tends to curve are evident.
