The hike starts with a comfortable cable car ride from Grindelwald to the First mountain station. First, a short, but sizable climb up to the rubber hut must be mastered.
The sharply jagged peaks of the Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn and Finsteraarhorn on the opposite side of the valley are in striking contrast to the lovely flower meadows that line the trail. More or less even way you can reach after a short hike from the Gummihütte to Bachalpsee. In the blue jewel of the Bernese Alps, the majestic Schreckhorn is reflected in windless conditions. Extensive meadows and numerous benches invite you to take a long break in front of an overwhelming panorama.
Behind the lake, the Säumerweg leads uphill towards the Burghi hut. Passing two shelters you reach the bottom of the alley. The old mountain hotel Faulhorn, from which you can experience magnificent sunrises and sunsets, is only a few ways further up. The viewpoint Faulhorn offers an overwhelming view of all mountain giants of the Bernese Oberland. Opposite the view sweeps over the foothills of the Alps, the Emmental, the middle and the Jura up to the Baden Black Forest and the Alsatian Vosges. Seven Swiss lakes are visible: east of Lake Zug and Lake Lucerne, at the foot of Lake Brienz and Lake Thun, and to the west of Lake Biel, Lake Murten and Lake Neuchâtel.
The Berghotel Faulhorn (meaning lazy rock), 2,681 m, is the oldest mountain hotel in Switzerland. From up here you can enjoy an overwhelming 360 ° panorama. Almost unchanged, the mountain hotel has survived since its construction in 1830. It was an admirable achievement for the time and deserves our respect today.
