At the beginning of the Münzstraße two houses form a roof overhang and although there is still a car width of space below, one stands in the dry there. Over the centuries, the roofs have sloped so far that they keep the Münzstraße there dry.

In the past, houses in Goslar were taxed based on their floor area. For this reason, the beams on the first and mostly also on the second floor of the half-timbered houses were made approx. 0.5 m longer and thus gained more living space. As a result, the houses get wider towards the top, and if they then also lean towards one another, then you have the effect on Münzstrasse.

The two kissing houses, which still have space at the bottom and no more on the roofs at the top, are unique. If you don't know the background (that and why these houses are deliberately wider at the top), stand there and marvel. Some people will probably have asked themselves how someone could build things so crookedly ;)

A sign about the bottom of the two sloping houses would certainly be of interest to tourists.
