    The Passat is a four-masted steel barque, which was launched as one of the legendary Flying P-liners of the shipping company F. Laeisz in 1911 at Blohm & Voss and is now in the port of Travemünde.

    She was first used as a cargo ship by F. Laeisz between Europe and South America. Owned by Gustaf Erikson, it served mainly for wheat transport between Australia and Europe (see wheat regatta). The then captain was Otto Piper. In the 1950s, she was used as a cargo sail training ship between Europe and South America's East Coast. Overall, she rounded 39 times the notorious because of its weather conditions Cape Horn (so-called Cape Hoornier). In 1957, the ship was decommissioned due to declining profitability.

      The Baltic Sea spa town of Travemünde is home to one of the most beautiful sailing ships in the country,
      the four-masted barque Passat. The 115-meter-long Passat has been moored at the mouth of the Trave since 1960
      and has long since become the landmark of the Baltic Sea spa town.
      In 2011, the old lady celebrated her 100th birthday. The four-masted barque Passat has been a listed building since 1978. The successful renovation of the Passat, costing over seven million marks, took place from August 3, 1997 to May 16, 1998.
      Today, the Passat is rented out all year round by the School and Sports Department of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck to school classes, sports clubs, youth groups and other organizers.
      A total of 104 berths and three event rooms are available.
      The ship can be visited regularly in the summer months.
      A small cafeteria offers snacks and drinks to refresh yourself in between meals.

        The Passat is a four-masted steel barque, one of the legendary Blohm & Voss Flying P-Liners. The "flying" stands for the outstanding speed of 18 knots, which the PASSAT with 4,600 sqm sail area on its up to 56 meter high masts achieved under favorable conditions. She must have been a feast for the eyes. I have seen the sister ship the Kruzenshtern under sail with admiration and the Passat must have looked something like that
        The price of the ready-to-sea PASSAT was then 680,000 marks. Today it is a museum ship
