The listed building consists of three parallel bridges and stands between the junctions Bad Lobenstein and Rudolphstein. The vault bridge was first opened to traffic on September 27, 1936 and belonged to the well-known large bridges of the highway construction program of the Nazi era. She was a role model for many similar bridges.

The motorway bridge at Rudolphstein spans the Saale and today forms the Thuringian-Bavarian border.

You should definitely take a look below. When crossing the motorway, you don't see much of the imposing structure (old status and newly added side).
As beautiful as the area and the building are: the noise from the motorway is omnipresent...

The viaduct was built by an average of 300 workers at a cost of around three million Reichsmarks within a year (this would correspond to today's purchasing power of around 13.2 million euros).
Each directional lane was carried by its own 9.05 m wide arch bridge. The clear distance in the transverse direction between the bridges is 3.0 m. In the longitudinal direction, the 254 m long building has eight openings with semicircular arches, each with a clear width of 27 m. The pillar center distances are 31.2 m. The visible surfaces of the masonry construction are covered with granite.
