The lighthouse owes its name, Phare d'Eckmühl, to the Marquise Adélaïde-Louise d'Eckmühl de Blocqueville, who stipulated in her will that a lighthouse should be built in Brittany (for which she generously provided financial resources) that bears the name of d'Eckmühl 'Eckmühl was to be received in memory of her father, Maréchal Louis Nicolas Davout, who was awarded the title of Prince d'Eckmühl after the victory of Napoleon's armies near the village of Eggmühl (today part of the Schierling market in the Upper Palatinate). .
On the 100th anniversary of the lighthouse's commissioning in 1997, the communities of Schierling/Eggmühl and Penmarc'h entered into a community partnership.

The Phare d'Eckmühl is a lighthouse on the Pointe de Saint-Pierre in Penmarc'h in the French department of Finistère. Inaugurated on October 17, 1897, Phare d'Eckmühl is one of Europe's tallest lighthouses, 60 meters high. The tower secures one of the most dangerous coasts of France due to many rocks. The walls of the tower are made of Kersanton granite, and the inner wall of the stairwell is covered with opaline glass. The tower is today one of the most visited buildings of Finistère.
