A detour to the inland dunes of Nordoe / Kremperheide is always worthwhile. The conversion of the former military training area into a nature reserve and recreation area has been a success.

From kremperheide.de:

The fauna-flora habitat (FFH) contains one of the few remaining open and intact inland dune landscapes in Schleswig-Holstein. On inland dunes there are dry sandy heaths with heather and gorse in addition to open grassy areas. Some areas have been preserved as open sandy areas, others are overgrown with oak and birch forests. Wet heaths occur in dune valleys. Soil acidic, kratt-like oak forests, wooded dunes and some nutrient-poor shallow water ponds or naturally nutrient-rich waters complete the range of habitats. On the western edge of the site, grassy lawns are included in the area.
