The time when the "Green Lion" pit was put into operation is still in the dark. In any case, it was operated as early as around 1718 and was mentioned by name for the first time around 1746, when a newly founded union filed a loan application for, among other things, the pit of the Green Lion.

Copper ore was primarily mined here. The silver that has meanwhile also been extracted.
The pit was operated over three soles. The mouth of the lower gallery is a few meters above the Friedrich pit in the Schweins Valley, but on the opposite side of the valley. The "Middle Stollen" is about 30 meters above this gallery and the "Upper Stollen" is again about 22 meters above it. This “upper gallery” was later mined and the remains can still be seen clearly and impressively.

To the north of Imsbach, in the Schweinstal, is the former “Grüner Löwe” mine. It was one of the five large mines in the Imsbach ore district. Copper and silver ores have been mined here since the 14th century, perhaps even in Roman times.
