The Mountain of the Beatitudes rises gently from the north shore of the Sea of Galilee towards the north, occasionally cultivated with banana plantations that alternate with olive groves and meadows. There, according to tradition, Jesus delivered his famous Sermon on the Mount, which can be found in the Gospel of Matthew (Mt 5-7). Right at the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus pronounces the Beatitudes in verses 3-11 - hence the name "Mount of Beatitudes" - which are very important for Christians.
Even if you are less interested in the Christian background, wonderful views of the lake can be enjoyed from the Mount of Beatitudes, which rises quite a way above the Sea of Galilee.
