The first Büsum church was built around 1281 on the former island of Biusne. It was consecrated to St. Clement, patron saint of boatmen and coastal dwellers. Clemens was the third bishop of Rome and Pope around AD 100. The Büsum church seal shows him with the anchor with which he was drowned, according to legend, in the Black Sea.
The first church fell victim to a storm surge, the great Mandranke of 1362. The then rebuilt church became a robbery of the flames. The third church was built by the islanders in 1442 on a heaped heap, a heaped up mound, which offered protection in storm surges. The church was therefore a safe haven for all inhabitants of Büsum during storm surges and a meeting place for secular or church announcements. Above all, it was and is a place of worship and pause. The church is open daily from 8am to 4pm.

Right next to the fishermen's church of St. Clement stands the bronze statue commemorating Johann Adolfi Kösters, called Neocorus, who lived from 1550-1630.
