Between April 2023 and September 2025, the Karl Bridge on Industriestrasse between Schleußig and Plagwitz will be replaced by a new building.

The old brick arched bridge over the Weiße Elster was built around 1900 and is 34 meters long and 11 meters wide. The arches, pillars and abutments are in poor condition. They have open joints, broken stones and cracks. Because the damage is too great and the material is too worn, repairing the bridge is not economically viable. In addition, the existing three-span arched bridge with two intermediate supports is unfavorable because flood water cannot be effectively drained away. The new arched bridge will therefore be built as a single-span bridge.

The most ideal is to look at it all from the water. The tall buildings right on the water with their overhanging balconies are already crazy. That would be a great highlight for water walking, paddling or rowing, if that's what Komoot would do as a sport.
