          On the castle square was already in the 9th century, the castle of the Brunons, built in the 12th century Duke Henry the Lion here the original castle Dankwarderode, the collegiate church of St. Blasii, the present cathedral and the castle lion.             A special highlight takes place in summer when Burgplatz becomes a stage and the Braunschweig State Theater has set up its stage. Madame Butterfly was planned for 2020. Due to corona postponed to 2021.

                        The Burgplatz is the nucleus of Braunschweig. What surprised me was the fact that the castle is a replica and does not correspond to the actual castle. Still very nice.

                                  Braunschweig Cathedral, officially the Cathedral Church of St. Blaise in Braunschweig and formerly the Collegiate Church of St. Blaise and St. John the Baptist, is the most important church in Braunschweig. It was founded in 1173 as a collegiate church by Henry the Lion, Duke of Bavaria and Saxony, opposite his castle Dankwarderode "in honor of St. Blaise and St. John the Baptist" and was designated by him as his burial place and that of his second wife, Matilda of England. The cathedral was consecrated in 1226.
