El Torcal. A fascinating area in which kilometers or time are not important, because this seems to have stopped here. There is a shorter and a longer route that I highly recommend. If you take your time, you can discover a lot: ibex, vultures and bizarrely beautiful rock formations. Especially when there is not much going on, this is a fantastic place to simply switch off and let the ingenuity of nature work its magic on you.

El Torcal is a nature reserve in the Sierra del Torcal mountain range. The otherworldly landscape comprises endless peculiar rock formations. At times, it feels like you’re exploring a planet from Star Wars. The reserve is home to lots of wildlife, including griffon vulture, Spanish ibex, Andalusian mountain goat, peregrine falcon, and Bonelli's eagle. When you climb atop the rock formations, the views are utterly breathtaking.

On a practical note, the landscape is hard going. When planning Tours, anticipate your average speed will be less than 2mph (3.2kph). Sturdy shoes are a must. Also, even if it’s warmer below, temperatures are considerably cooler up here and winds are much stronger, so layer up!

It is a 2,750m route, of easy or medium difficulty, circular and 2 hours long, although it can be done in much less time. The yellow route includes part of the green route, the shortest and also suitable for all types of visitors or hikers looking for little difficulty.

The park is best known for limestone cliffs from the Karst period, which have been modeled into striking, erratic shapes by erosion. You can still see that "Torcal de Antequera" was once under the seabed from the beautifully preserved fossils of mainly ammonites that you come across in a number of places.

The yellow route in the El Torcal National Park is about 2.8 km long and highly recommended. Sturdy footwear is recommended as it goes partly through rocky, steeper tight. You do not have to be a mountaineer to be able to do this, but reasonably well on foot. If you do not want to hike so far, you can also choose the green route, which is only about half as long and consists almost of the first and last part of the yellow route.
All routes start right at the parking lot (northeastern corner), please do not follow the routes the other way around, but follow the arrows, otherwise you will get into oncoming traffic in Engen.
We needed about 3 hours with some photo stops:

A fascinating landscape. For 3 km loop we have never needed so long (because of the many photo stops).
Beautiful karst formations and free-living mountain goats.
Information and snacks are available at the visitor center.

Damn cold in January! It is really fresh in the windy places and especially at the entrance. On the hike itself, on the other hand, you really warm up.

Attention: In January it is more than just a little windy. You can also come in ski clothing, BUT you have to be able to open it, because when the sun is shining it gets really warm again in places.

Fabulous views of the wide valley and mountains. Pretty windy up here and pleasantly cool. If you are ever here, you should definitely go through one of the walking routes.

A huge and incomparable boulder in the middle of nowhere - El Torcal de Antequera. The u.U ,. longer journey is definitely worth it. Attention, we were there in January and it was really cold and windy. I'm partly with my winter jacket over the rocks, which I had worn on ski holidays ...

On the Way of St. James from Málaga to Mérida (Camino Mozarabe), the path leads through this beautiful nature reserve. The descent towards Antequera is relatively steep, but somewhat alleviated by serpentines.

I usually walk a lot from Antequera, by bicycle or by car... it is a wonderful place to get lost and forget about the world and be in full contact with nature and the universe... the Wonder of Wonders said my Maestro del Torcal Pepe Warrior who knew him perfectly.

Far away from mass tourism on the Costa del Sol, pure relaxation and worth seeing. There are several signposted paths to follow, not very difficult, but you should wear good shoes. If you're lucky you can meet wild mountain goats. The yellow path is certainly the most common.

National Park with great rock formations. There are several trails for hiking. The green route about an hour or the larger really worthwhile yellow route with an approximate length of about 3km and a duration of about 2-3 hours, depending on how many photos you make.
Sturdy shoes are highly recommended!
