Follow in the footsteps of the miners: Archaeological finds in Fricktal prove that the Alemanni have already dug here to Eisenerz. The ore mines between Wölflinswil and Zeihen were first mentioned in writing in the 13th century. From 1937 to 1967 Herznach iron ore was industrially mined in the mine. But what are eight hundred years of ore mining against 300 million years of earth history? The path leads from Post Wölflinswil past Wölflinswiler Graben and then climbs up to the "multi-millionaire". There is a well trough with rock samples from the history of the last 300 million years.
The trail leads past the Tagbauten from the early days of ore mining to Haugerhölzli from where you can see the imposing Erzsilo, a relic of industrial iron ore mining. Next to it is the interesting exhibition "Mine, Geology and Ammonites". On the information boards you will learn interesting facts about the geology of the Jura and the history of iron ore mining in Fricktal.
