The entire structure was originally covered with earth. Because of their size and their relatively good state of preservation, the Sloopsteine are well-known throughout Westphalia and the Osnabrück region. More than 4,000 years ago, this megalithic tomb served as the final resting place for members of the clan who lived here.
As early as 1807 and 1856, urns and grave goods were searched for at the Sloopsteenen with almost no success. Grave robbers have been there before. The tombs were used until the Bronze Age.
