The Holy Grave of Bernterode was built in 1798 on the Lindey.
Every year on the Feast of the Ascension, a procession led to the Klüschen, which was modeled on the grave of Jesus Christ.
The inscription: “Memento Mori” is intended to remind us that our earthly life will one day come to an end. (The expression "Memento mori" - Latin for "Remember that you are dying" comes from medieval monastic Latin, where it was probably modified from "Memento moriendum esse", i.e. "Remember that you must die".
