Haus Welbergen is a moated castle located about 5 kilometers from Ochtrup in a small forest. It is still one of the lesser-known cultural and natural treasures of the Münsterland, although it is by no means less attractive than the more well-known facilities. The building history can be traced back to a Gräftehof mentioned in the 13th century; over time, conversions and new buildings were added (such as the small baroque garden). The owners also changed several times; today the house belongs to the Bertha Jordaan van Heek Foundation (promotion of German-Dutch cultural exchange, monument protection).

At the time the tour was recorded (mid-March), the water in the Gräfte (Westphalian = "water ditch") was filled with crystal-clear water, which led to interesting reflections. Visitors to Haus Welbergen should also visit the small grove, which is criss-crossed by a system of ditches.

Haus Welbergen is perhaps one of the most beautiful secrets of the Münsterland. Although the moated castle is not as well known as many other castles in Westphalia, it is in no way inferior to them in terms of beauty and charm. Embedded in a small forest area, Haus Welbergen is located about 5 kilometers from Ochtrup.
