On the way to or from the Hirschenstein you will just pass the summit of the Schopf. A small detour to the twelve meter high summit cross is worthwhile. It was erected in 1947 on Ascension Day by the Windberger Burschenverein as a thank you for returning from captivity. Every year at Pentecost, people make a pilgrimage to the cross and commemorate the event.
According to the maps of the state surveying office, the summit is at an altitude of 920 m, other sources state 925 m. The Schopf can be reached from Grandsberg, Kostenz, Höhenberg or Rautenstock via hiking trails.
