The Mühlgrabenweg, also known as the Königsweg because of its beauty, is one of the most attractive hiking trails in the Bavarian Forest. It leads over shady forest paths and past murmuring streams or shimmering ponds.

The Mühlgraben was created in 1720 in order to be able to supply the electoral mill in Schwarzach with more water. This was urgently needed because the mill produced the malt for the much appreciated Schwarzacher beer. But even after the natural watercourse had been diverted and the ditch brought the water to the malt mill, a lack of water was found again: the sawmills in the vicinity had tapped the mill ditch. The court files on the numerous trials from that time are high stacks.

In the course of the 19th century the mills were then used from other sources, the mill moat lost its function and the water dried up. It was not until the end of the 1970s that the ditch was reactivated and the excavation was used to create today's wonderful hiking trail.

Mühlgrabenweg one of the most beautiful paths, whether on foot or by mountain bike 🚵🏽‍♀️🤩In 1720 a 6.5 km long ditch was dug through the Schwarzacher Hochwald to better supply the electoral court mill in Schwarzach with water. It was only abandoned towards the middle of the 20th century. In 1983 the Mitterfels Forestry Office restored this moat in the state forest as a reminder of the energy shortages of earlier times and expanded it as a hiking trail from Ödwies to the level of Schachten.
