This is the church of the evangelical community in Burg (Spreewald).
At the beginning, Burg did not have its own church. The residents in Lübbenau attended the service. After 1635 the burgers went to the local village church of Werben. In 1749 the first house of prayer was built in Burg. However, this proved to be insufficient and was torn down again a short time later. A half-timbered church was built in 1753, but it burned down in a major fire on September 30, 1766. As a replacement for the church, a prayer house was built again in 1767. The building near the Leineweberfließ, reminiscent of a small barn, stood until 1960 when it was demolished.
As the number of inhabitants continued to grow, the desire for a new church building grew. On September 30, 1799, 33 years after the major fire, the foundation stone was laid for the new church that still exists today. The original location of the half-timbered church was chosen as the location.
The consecration of the church took place on November 11, 1804. Special features of the church are the two galleries and the organ made by the Sauer company in 1973. From 1947 to the nineties, the regional youth Sunday of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg took place annually in Burg.
