GAGFAH, owned by Fortress Investment Group LLC since summer 2004, has the word “non-profit” in its name. However, that does not prevent her from giving notice to a 94-year-old tenant.

Dora Dick has lived in the Krumme Lanke forest settlement in Zehlendorf since 1946, built from 1937 to 1939 by GAGFAH as an “SS comradeship settlement”. After the end of the war, the approximately 700 apartments were largely empty because the residents had fled. By order of the Allies, the houses were reserved for victims of Nazi terror. Prisoners from the concentration camps and prisons, resistance fighters, bombed out opponents of the Nazi regime, political emigrants and Jewish illegals who had survived the Holocaust moved in here - including Dora Dick. In 1937 she emigrated to England via Prague, where she co-founded the “Free German League of Culture in Great Britain” with Oskar Kokoschka, Alfred Kerr, Stefan Zweig and other anti-fascists
