The Red Chapel, also Annakapelle, was built in honor of St. Anna on the Blumenberg am Lindchen and recalls the witch hunt in the Wildenburger Land 1613-1652.

At this chapel women outlawed as witches from 1613-1652 were executed as part of the Wildenburg witch trials. The linden tree is supposed to remind of this atrocity.

Saint Anne is the mother of Mary, the mother of God, who is not attested in the biblical texts, i.e. the grandmother of Jesus Christ. However, it is mentioned in apocryphal (that is, not included in the canon of the Bible) writings, for example in the so-called "Protoevangelium of James". There is no historically reliable knowledge about Anna's life, but there are numerous traditional stories that are summarized, for example, in the medieval "Legenda Aurea" by the Dominican monk Jacobus de Voragine. Among other things, she is the patroness of Anna's Church in Düren, where a piece of her skull is kept as a relic. Her memorial day is - together with her husband Joachim - on July 26th.
