At the edge of the Steigerwald near Iphofen and Markt Einersheim you can experience a unique cultural and natural landscape. In the forests, the undergrowth was felled for firewood every 30 years, while the upper wood (mostly oak) was spared. The so-called Mittelwald was created. This gave the oak and hornbeam forests their characteristic appearance and their enormous wealth of different structures (e.g. different floors, tree hollows, dead wood).
