The canal run is a recreational area that invites to a variety of activities. Some go jogging early in the morning and late in the evening, while others relax from the stress of the day. The loner is preoccupied with his inner pictures, the nature lover observes the birds in the water and the plants and flowers on the shore, and many hikers simply enjoy the natural, almost unobstructed landscape. The shore path also gives you a view of the village of Winznau, which is embedded between Aare and the southern slope of the Dottenberg.
Insight into the history of the village
On 23 panels set up from the Rankwog to the Oakwood, there are texts that point to historical events in different epochs, to historical developments and changes, and to give an insight into the history of the village. The topics chosen are mainly focused on landmarks that are clearly visible from the canal bank. They are dealt with conclusively on a board and find no continuation on the next.
As a result, the culture path does not have a chronological course. Thus, in addition to the data on the history of the Rankwog Bridges, there is a historical event that dates back 10'000 years and points to the first people in the community who lived in the Käsloch and Köpfli. This requires the reader to be able to change, but also has the advantage that one can leave the track at any time or "get in" at the Giessen Bridge, the middle bridge or the arch bridge in the oak forest. The respective location is marked with a red dot and shows the further course.
The realization of the cultural path has been made possible by the former inhabitant of Winznau, Mrs. Gret Flückiger-Hulliger. On the occasion of her demise she set up a foundation for the promotion of cultural life in Winznau. Ernst Sturzenegger, Winznau, and the lottery fund of the canton of Solothurn also contributed.
