The Church of the Redeemer is now Bad Homburg's main Protestant church. Its special highlight: With a Sauer organ and the New Bach organ, it boasts two impressive instruments. Consecrated in 1908, the church is an impressive example of Wilhelminian Neo-Romanesque with influences of Art Nouveau and stylistic elements of Byzantine art, as well as German High Romanesque. Upon entering the towering building opposite the Landgrave's Palace, one is indeed reminded of Istanbul's Hagia Sophia. Its interior is designed in the Neo-Byzantine style: The walls are richly clad in marble, and the ceiling is covered with generous gold mosaics. In addition to the box built especially for the emperor, the church also impresses with its six-armed light cross in the crossing dome and the altar made entirely of white marble.
