This Wasser.Blick is located on the edge of the historic city center of Bruges. From here it is not far to Brüggen Castle with the information point of the nature park, to the Kreuzherrenkloster and other architectural evidence of past centuries.
But Brüggen not only has a lot to offer in terms of culture. The Schwalm floodplains were extensively renatured both in the west in the area of the Dilborner Benden and in the east at the Vennmühle. You can experience the varied meadow landscape on numerous hiking and biking trails, e.g. the A4 and A6 circular routes. A large number of beavers live in this area and the rodents have left their traces in many places.
The Brüggen mill was first mentioned in 1289. It drove a grinder for grain and a hammer mechanism for oil extraction via a water wheel each. The remaining mill wheel can still be seen in the “Alte Brüggener Mühle” restaurant.
In the 1980s, the area in front of the mill was still being used as a traffic training area. A park with sculptures by the local artist Uwe Meints has now been created there. A fish ladder meanders through the middle of the meadow. This channel, naturally designed like a stream bed, can be used by fish and other stream organisms to "swim around" the 1.5 meter high barrier of the mill weir.
