Whether you are passing through or roaming, treat yourself to a visit and enjoy the exceptional panorama from its height.

For centuries, Saumur has breathed to the rhythm of its castle. Visible for miles on its rocky peak, this fortress is like the castles of our storybooks and our fairy tales.

Castle-palace of the Dukes of Anjou in the 1906th and 1906th centuries, the Château de Saumur, where King René stayed, is the last example of the princely palaces built by the Valois dynasty. Residence of the governors of the city, prison and then arms and ammunition depot. It was bought by the city in 1906 to house the municipal museum, now the Musée de France. Today, we discover the rich collections spread out in the former apartments of the Dukes of Anjou in an educational museography.

Definitely worth a visit.
